Product Haul from the Black Women's Expo 2017 Chicago

Welcome back!

I recently attended the first stop of The Black Women's Expo 2017 in Chicago, IL from April 7 - 9 at McCormick Place.  Check out my YouTube video to see my Vlog about my experience at the expo and some do's and dont's.

This post is to give product reviews for all of my products.  I bought a lot of stuff!

All of my wonderful purchases!

All of my wonderful purchases!

As I stated in my Vlog, there is a product I purchased that burned like a Bunsen burner and I had to return it.Due to the swift and professional handling of the situation by the company, I decided not to name the company or show the product.

I purchased the following products from the following companies (I have included hyperlinks to the websites of these companies):

Solo Noir

Popped (Whipped Body Butters)

Sankofa Shea

Gorjus Whips

Shea du Mali

Exotic Scents of Mind

OoWee Sweet Tea

Here are my reviews of each:

Gorjus Whips- would recommend

Check out my product testing and visual review of this product, starting at the 6-minute mark in my Vlog about the Black Women's Expo.  Or see below :)

Shea du Mali- would recommend- my favorite product!

I just LOVE these products!  I love the scents; I love the way the Shea butters moisturize my skin; I just love how the products feel!  My boyfriend is the one who uses the African Black Soap and he really likes it.  I use the fragrance body oil, which is OK (the scent doesn't last that long), but overall, I am happy with my purchase and plan to order the Shea butters again when they run out.

Exotic Scents of Mind- would recommend

This is another product that I wasn't crazy about at first, but it definitely has grown on me.  I use it mainly at night to have a nice soft scent when I go to bed.  However, I have dry skin, so during the colder weather, it hasn't proven to be the best moisturizer.

OoWee Sweet Tea- would recommend

OMG!!!!  I used to live in Atlanta and people in the South love them some sweet tea... but not me.  This company uses local raw honey instead of sugar to sweeten their sweet tea, and baaabby...  it is AMAZING!  I'm sure the tea has a lot of calories, but it is so good!  By the time I stopped by their booth, the only tea flavors that were left were the Blue Ivy, Cherry Lime, and original Lemon Honey.  They were all amazing and I bought a mini jug of each one.  I would probably only get the original Lemon Honey again because I could taste the artificial flavoring in the other ones, but I would definitely try the other flavors I wasn't able to sample previously.

Solo Noir- would not recommend

This is actually my boyfriend's purchase.  Solo Noir is a black female owned company, created by two cousins who wanted to establish a skincare grooming line for men (I know this because I talked to one of the cousins!  She was really cool and professional).

My boyfriend isn't impressed with the products; he got the "All Natural Starter Kit".  This kit includes the “Dapper” Face/Beard Wash + “Smooth” Facial Moisturizer.  He hasn't noticed any difference in his skin, he doesn't feel like it conditions his skin the way the product is supposed to, and he feels like it's overpriced.  I was told females can use it as well, so I tried it and am not impressed either (even though I, thankfully, don't have a beard!).  I don't feel like it was any better than a store-bought product and for $35 for the All Natural Starter Kit, I would pass.

Popped (Whipped Body Butters)- would recommend

I actually was disappointed by this product at first because I felt like the scents I purchased, eucalyptus and lavender, were very faint and I didn't feel it moisturized well.  However, I have dug a little deeper (literally) into the product and maybe that's where all the good stuff is, but I am much more impressed with how it moisturizes my skin now.  I still feel the scent is very faint, but I know that's a plus for some people.  I plan on saving the eucalyptus one for the summer time to help combat any mosquitoes that always come my way!

Sankofa Shea- would recommend

I like this Shea butter because it is a whipped, soft Shea butter with a nice scent.  I also bought their candle that can be used as a body oil; it smells nice.  I haven't really used it as a body oil yet, but I've used a little of it on my hands.

All in all, I had a wonderful time at The Black Women's Expo and would definitely encourage those who are into fairs and festivals to attend and support a local black business.
