Antigua Carnival 2016: Dickenson Bay Accommodations
Hey Everyone!
If you haven't already checked out my YouTube review, you can do so here. It has a lot of footage of the grounds so you can get a feel of how the place looks and how it is set up.
If you have already seen my YouTube video, here is my full review of my stay at Dickenson Bay Cottages (July 26, 2016 - August 6, 2016):
The cottage I stayed in was is a loft-like cottage. There was a full kitchen and living room on the bottom floor and the bedroom and bathroom were upstairs. There was a porch outside in the front with a round table and 4 chairs, which is great for hanging out, having a glass of wine, or just reading while having the island breeze kiss your skin :)
Likes:
- Convenience- while it's not on the beach, it's a 10ish minute walk to the beach. It's also a short walk to a convenience store. There are a few restaurants that are within walking distance, some of which are along the beach as well. I did not have a chance to go to all of these restaurants, but I was happy with the ones I tried. Note: there will be a separate post about the food :)
- Peace and Quiet- I am not sure if it's the time of year we went, but the grounds didn't seem to have a lot of other visitors. It was super quiet during the day and at night. So if you are looking for a party hotel/place to stay, this is not it, at least not around Carnival time.
- The Cottage itself- it was clean and was cleaned daily to my satisfaction (the maid would wash the dishes, but I would never leave too many in the sink), it smelled nice, and probably the biggest plus is that the whole place was cooled by the AC. I've stayed in Antigua Village before (which is also in Dickenson Bay) and only the bedroom had AC, but since our cottage was a loft style, even though there was an AC only in the bedroom, our whole cottage was cooled. Trust me, that is a plus!
Dislikes:
- Leaks- As you can see in my YouTube video, when it rained, a few times, the ceiling leaked. We didn't really complain about it because it didn't happen every time it rained and it only leaked in the shower.
- Appliances- as you can also see from my video, the fridge was a mini fridge. This can be an issue because if you want to cook more than eat out, you would have to go to the supermarket more often.
- Laundry- the laundry situation could've been better. They charged per piece of clothing. I didn't like this because if you like to travel light and prefer to do laundry, I am not sure if it is economically efficient to plan to do laundry when you know you have to pay per piece of clothing. If you're staying in a cottage-style room, you are likely going to be staying there for a decent amount of time.
- Distance- the cottage is at least a 20-25 minute walk to the closest supermarket: which is called 1st Choice. It's not within walking distance to the center of town. If you don't have a rental car (or access to one if you have family or friends who live there), you will spend a lot of money on cabs.
So that's my review! If I left anything out, feel free to email me at DenniesJourney@gmail.com or comment on the YouTube video.
See you soon!
